Job description

Analyzes and calibrates all types of electronic and environmental equipment. Maintains a calibration and records system which conforms to ANSI/NCSL Z540.1. Performs fabrication of models or prototypes of test equipment and test fixtures as required. Performs electronic equipment repair and diagnosis including de-soldering and replacement of components.

Duties Assigned to the Position:

1. Maintains all transfer standards and arranges for their periodic calibration.
2. Maintains specific procedures and schedules for equipment calibration.
3. Writes equipment calibration procedures as required.
4. Makes minor repairs and maintenance as required and performs receiving tests on new equipment.
5. Creates purchase requisitions for test equipment calibration with outside vendors.
6. Maintains inventory and location records on controlled equipment.
7. Provides support to other departments when equipment problems are involved.
8. Designs and constructs new special test equipment necessary for efficient testing.
9. Consults with engineers, product designers and other others in testing a new product or in changing an existing one.
10. Repairs, maintains, and installs research and/or prototype lab equipment with a minimum of guidance.
11. Repairs electronic equipment by applying knowledge of electronic theory to determine reasons for failure and to determine extent of problem.
12. Assists with creating simple custom circuit boards for test fixtures and operating custom circuit board printing equipment.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Equipment Operated:
- Uses various electronic and measuring devices including oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Operates all calibrating standards.
- Soldering stations.
- Custom circuit board cutting equipment.

Physical Effort:
- Occasionally lifts equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Walking around facility performing calibration.
- Occasional trips to electronic stores and calibration houses.

Working Environment:
- Works in a controlled environment with temperatures of 68-78 degrees and humidity 20-80.

Basic Job Requirements:
Education: High School diploma plus at least two years of college or technical schooling in an appropriate science or engineering-oriented program, or equivalent of education, training or work experience.

Experience: 2 years minimum of experience related to duties discussed above.

Other Skills: • Ability to read electronic and mechanical schematics and drawings.
• Ability to operate test equipment such as power supplies, digital voltmeters, calculators, soldering and de-soldering equipment and assorted hand tools.
• Requires a good degree of adaptability, ingenuity and resourcefulness.
• Good electrical and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to make experimental drawings, schematics and sketches for new products, tools and equipment.
