Job Summary
PSE&G is seeking a new member for the Technical Training team within the Transformation & Centralized Service organization at our Edison NJ location. The successful candidate will advance the training that supports a safe, skilled, and efficient utility work force working in concert with a team of training professionals for PSE&G’s Underground Electric occupational group.
The role is responsible to conduct the instruction and learning evaluation required to provide apprentice and incumbent employees & contractor personnel (as required) with the technical skills and knowledge necessary to perform underground (Conventional and Buried Underground Distribution) electric construction and maintenance in accordance with job specifications, contract obligations, Underground and Outside Plant Technical Construction Manuals, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
This Training & Development Specialist – Division Mechanic is proficient in teaching courses related to their subject-matter, is contributing as an instructor of general electric distribution courses, is a leader in the classroom, and has oversite of 6-12 BU students in class while training and has a minimum of 2-years of positive evaluations from management observations of them facilitating training classes; coaching and developing BU trainees in the classroom. Has become proficient in teaching general electric distribution classes, such as Substation Awareness, Safety Tagging, and/or DC/AC. This individual makes Annual Content Updates to curriculum. The Training & Development Specialist – Division Mechanic will be a member of relevant training committees and all appropriate Occupational Work Groups. The Training and Development Specialist – Division Mechanic is eligible for on-call field assignments as a supervisor, and available for field supervisory shifts.
Job Responsibilities
Instruct electric distribution courses. Responsible to coach and develop trainees in their classroom. Become proficient in teaching other general electric distribution courses, such as Substation Awareness, Safety Tagging, and/or DC/AC
Content development updates. The individual actively works to annually develop learning content for their courses, work with learning technology, and time management skills.
Develop relationships with subject matter experts to identify training needs and related content. Develop relationships with external subject matter experts to identify industry best practices.
Use learning technology, Analysis, design, and evaluate apprentice and incumbent employee technical training.
Understand and explain key training metrics associated with the Manager’s Dashboard
Be a supervisor of work by BU employees on field assignments in the Division.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
High school graduate or GED
Minimum of 5 years utility experience
Must have worked as an Underground Lineperson (qualified Division Mechanic, UG Chief, etc.) or as an Underground Supervisor with a strong background in electric distribution: underground construction, maintenance, troubleshooting and safe work practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of multiple topics that include pole climbing, 3-phase electrical systems, transformer wiring, load pick-up jumpers, live high voltage work, phasing and operation of 13kV switches, etc., to conduct hands on credibly and safely.
Ability to learn and apply training and development processes of analysis, design, development, evaluation, and alternative delivery methods, including automated computer-based applications.
Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word
Strong oral and written communication skills
Must possess a valid U. S. driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Desirable:
BS / BA degree in engineering technology, education, training, or instructional design
Knowledge / experience or the ability to learn evolving systems such as OMS, GIS, OP2002.
Knowledge / experience in assessment facilitation, need/task analysis, instructional design/development, and instructional evaluation.
Experience in joint union / management team assessment.
Supervisory and / or project management related experience.
Experience in Learning Management System use and data management / reporting.
Experience in alternative training delivery methods, including automated, computer-based, or virtual / augmented reality applications.
