Job description
Zero Labs is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to play a leading role in the design and implementation of Advanced DC fast charging systems within our vehicles. Zero Labs Automotive based in Los Angeles, California is an automotive and industrial design, technology and engineering firm with a focus on developing the Premium Classic Electric Vehicles. Responsibilities
- Lead the Charging Systems Engineering team responsible for the development and verification/validation testing of electric vehicle battery charging products (both AC Chargers and DC Fast Chargers)
- Serve as the primary interface between the Charger Development and the Vehicle Systems to ensure a successful charger integration effort
- Lead HW and SW requirement definition from high level system prerequisites to low level component requirements
- Lead Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis and Functional Safety efforts focused on the Charger in its intended application
- Develop a comprehensive Design Verification plan which employs test methods at various levels (SIL, HIL, Charger and Vehicle Charging System)
- Ensure product compliance with all applicable regulations, UL, ISO, IEC, NEC and other industry standards
- Define the requirements and specifications of the power electronics systems and Energy Management System (EMS)
- Knowledgeable in electrical safety, UL standards and the National Electric Code
- Ensure validation of charging interoperability with various charging networks and service providers
- Fosters collaboration with cross-functional teams and other leaders to drive work to completion and resolve issues
- Maintains a safe and professional work environment
Requirements
- BSEE, MSEE or PhD in Power Electronics or equivalent
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working with electric vehicle battery charging systems
- In depth understanding of the regulatory requirements, UL, ISO, IEC and industry standards applicable to utility connected electric vehicle battery charging products
- Understanding of the ISO 15118 vehicle charging protocol
- Experience using requirement management tools such as Jama
- Experience leading DFMEAs and experience using DFMEA software tools (such as IQRM or Plato)
- Understanding of the Functional Safety process and standards relevant to safety critical systems and to Chargers in particular
- Experience or understanding of hardware and software validation testing at various levels (SIL, HIL, Charger and Vehicle Charging System)
- Participation on charging standard committees a plus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment
- Good team player with great communication skills
- Self-motivated: Demonstrated ability to set direction and guide the team towards it
- Experience as manager or director of Engineering
- Working knowledge and experience in control systems design, analysis, and simulation
- Able to run major power system development projects from concept to manufacturing
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as MATLAB or SPICE
- Working knowledge of vehicle charging system and charger stations and standards such as J1772, ISO 15118 or OCPP is a plus
- Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment
- Grid tie inverter or charger for electrical vehicle experience is a plus but not required
- Networked into global charging infrastructure and services supply base is a plus
