Job description
To coordinate and oversee day-to-day programming and operations of a federally licensed, university operated public radio station. Oversees, coordinates, and administers a range of programming, operational, and administrative activities in direct support of the delivery of 24-hour radio programming by the station. Responsible for the and on-air sound of WYSU-FM. Supervises and maintains skill level of on-air announcing staff. Supervises daily radio programming and operations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Oversees and coordinates the continuous, multifaceted daily programming operations of the radio station, ensuring compliance with broadcast standards, university policies, and relevant federal and state laws and regulations.
Maintains accurate schedules, records, and ensures that all on-air broadcast programming complies with FCC rules and regulations.
Supervises radio operations and development staff and student employees; trains and orients new employees; interviews candidates for employment and recommends hiring; evaluates employee work performance provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies.
Creates daily automation schedules; maintains and monitors underwriting account information on program log, including rotation schedules, and on-air copy. Works with development office to update underwriter information; ensures underwriting contracts are written correctly; ensures development staff understands how underwriting fits into the stations overall on-air sound.
Oversees master control operation of station, including maintaining and programming a radio automation system to control the station during all hours of operations. Schedule pre-recorded programs for later playback through an integrated satellite distribution system. Work with the radio engineer to maintain and upgrade audio file server.
Responsible for all WYSU-FM programming, including auditioning new materials from network and independent producers. Stays current on trends in public radio, analyzing ratings data and charting progress of current programs, making adjustments to WYSU program schedule as necessary; works with staff to improve locally hosted programs and to make sure they perform to expectations.
Hires and trains student employees to perform elementary board operating duties, including announcing work and operation of studio equipment.
Creates local programs, promotional spots, and public service announcements for broadcast, including scheduling of guests for local programs; writes, records, edits, and mixes content; works with local hosts to present professional sound.
Performs as on-air program host as necessary, and during semi-annual on-air fund drives. ,
Researches and makes recommendations to management pertaining to acquisition of broadcast equipment.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Operated: Computer, broadcast console, satellite receivers, broadcast automation/operations system (ENCO), and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule: Typically, M-T-W-Th-F 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Responding to off-hour broadcasting needs and emergencies, as necessary.
Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over staff and student employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in music or broadcasting and a minimum of two years of broadcasting, public broadcasting experience, or other related experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree, and four years of broadcasting or public broadcasting experience.
