GRIT—Growing Resilient, Innovative Thinkers is a program that provides high dosage, explicit learning and thinking strategies to empower student athletes to feel and find success while providing an opportunity to close any possible academic gaps.GRIT Mentors have a roster of student athletes to implement research-based strategies for thinking critically beyond basic recall and memorization in reading and math. We are looking for reading, math, writing, and study skills mentors. Job Requirements Attend orientation and 3 day training in JuneMeet with students 4 days a week in June and July (up to 15 hours per week)Attend regular weekly meetings and collaborations in person or on ZoomComplete daily reports for each assigned studentDevelop, plan, prepare, and implement the strategic approach to high dosage tutoring aligned with trainingTrack, analyze, and synthesize student progress data based on high dosage tutoring modelCommunicate with the Coordinator oftenArrive in a timely mannerClearly and effectively deliver instructionKeep all student information confidentialPerform other duties as assigned
Job Location
Required Education: Temporary Employee must meet the skills requirement below in addition to holding a degree in desired subject to tutor. Must attach transcript reflecting minimum grade requirement or degree earned.
Skills: - Must have earned a B or higher in the specific course or have been award a degree in that area
- Must be capable of tutoring the courses specified
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to effectively communicate material while engaging with our student-athletes in a positive manner
- Must be willing and able to communicate and build relationships with a diverse group of students and colleagues
- Must be willing and able to gain and maintain working knowledge of university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
- Must be willing and able to adhere to standards of conduct for Athletics Academics Tutorial Staff
Department Preferences: - Experience working as a tutor for undergraduate or graduate students
- Experience working with a diverse group of students
- Working knowledge of university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
Advertised Physical Requirements: Must be able to communicate verbally, hear, and see, including depth perception and clarity.
