Job Summary

The Deputy Director of Policy reports to the Chief of Policy and Resiliency and is principally responsible for project management of cross-cutting Mayoral initiatives, management of Policy Associates, and providing high-quality, quick turnaround research and analysis in support of the Mayor’s overall policy agenda.

A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, and strategic planning skills. Knowledge of the Providence community, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to develop new skills on the job.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. BA/BS degree from a college/university or equivalent professional experience.
  2. Five years of professional experience in policy and/or project management.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively and to interact professionally with colleagues and external partners.
  4. Acute attention to detail.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of education policy and/or educational systems is preferred.
  6. Familiarity with the City of Providence including the neighborhoods and community.
  7. Exceptional problem-solving, critical-thinking, and strategic planning skills.
  8. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.
  9. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and take initiative.
  10. Ability to learn quickly and be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  11. Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills.
  12. Acute cross-cultural awareness, with a demonstrated ability to center equity in communications.
  13. Excellent research and analytical skills, including proficiency in data analysis and statistics preferred.
  14. Ability to identify and track key issues of concern to the City of Providence and develop initiatives to address these concerns.
