Job description

The Application Seal Engineer works within the business development and engineering design group to provide engineering support and overall technical service to customers. Through the application of expertise in elastomer material science, sealing theory, and access to the internal ESP design and testing teams, this engineer matches and customizes ESP products to improve the performance of our customers’ applications.

With domestic locations in Iowa, Texas, Kansas, and North Carolina we are open to where the right candidate can reside! 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Leadership Competencies

Business Development and Document Release (60%)

· Apply engineering principles, sealing knowledge, and practical experience to make recommendations to customers.

· Lead technical engagements remotely or on-site with customer engineering teams as prioritized by the sales department.

· Identify critical application requirements and release product specifications to the design team for solution development.

· Customize and release core products based on established design guidelines

· Serve as the internal technical resource for the opportunity management team.

· Participate or lead group design reviews with engineering and product management

Engineering Change Process (30%)

· Analyze requests for change (ECR) from internal staff

· Champion assigned change orders (ECO) as cognizant engineer through completion

Maintain professional & technical knowledge (10%)

· Participates in ESP Engineering continual improvement activities such as literature reviews, design reviews, and test outcomes.

· Attends educational workshops, partner-factory visits, and networking opportunities.

Travel

· Must be willing to travel to customer and supplier locations, domestic and international, up to 20% of the time.

Accountabilities and KPI’s

1. Release Process metrics 50%

a. Work days: Product specification release to concept task closure = 3 days

b. >90% score in monthly design documentation quality audit

2. Customer Feedback 20%

a. >90% positive feedback from quarterly survey

i. Customers, Sales department, & Quality department

3. Change Process metrics 15%

a. ECR start to conversion: 5 days

b. ECO start to technical (doc rev) release: 10 days

c. ECO technical release to closure (implementation): 30 days

d. >90% EC monthly documentation quality audit

4. Sustainment/Quality 15%

a. Days from failure data received to failure report filed: 10 day goal

b. Days from failure report filed to failure report closed: 20 day goal

c. >90% Failure report quarterly quality audit

Education

Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, however, any BSE degree accepted.
