THE POSITION

The Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Epidemiology, is in need of an epidemiologist to lead the Healthcare-Associated Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (HAIP), and to provide consultative, scientific, and technical expertise in the supervision of the analysis and interpretation of epidemiologic data to prevent and control healthcare-associated infections. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will supervise and manage a multidisciplinary team comprised of epidemiologist supervisors, epidemiologists, epidemiology research associates, infection preventionists, nursing consultants, data analysts, program and project managers, and ancillary staff working within the HAIP Division who carry out investigations related to healthcare-associated infections. Your job duties will include:
- Advising on complex, multi-state, or statewide investigations and studies, and coordinating with federal, state, and local health partners on appropriate follow-up activities related to healthcare-associated infections (HAI) to protect the public,
- Overseeing the epidemiologists who promote antimicrobial stewardship initiatives in a variety of healthcare settings,
- Developing HAI-related policy statements and procedural guidelines using subject matter expertise, state and federal regulations, and knowledge of public health networks that support the identification, reduction, and alleviation of HAI-related problems,
- Developing strategies to improve surveillance and response to HAIs, as well as strategies to improve reports, outreach, and education, and
- Directing and leading education and outreach programs for the public, professional groups, and others on health issues related to HAIs, including collaborative relationships with inter-Department and external partners such as the PA Patient Safety Authority, the Quality Innovation Network, the Hospital Improvement and Innovation Network, the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to facilitate attainment of Department goals.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: - Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: Under the current Administration, you may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Epidemiologist Supervisor (Commonwealth of PA job title); or
- Possession of either a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in epidemiology, Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO), Dental Surgery/Medicine (DDS/DDM/DMD), or Veterinary Medicine (DVM); AND four years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system; or
- Possession of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in a biological science such as biology, genetics, nursing or virology; AND either a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or Master of Science (MS) degree in epidemiology; AND four years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system.
Other Requirements: - PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
