Job Summary:
HCA Healthcare is seeking to recruit a nurse practitioner for a busy general surgeon based in the South Texas community of Brownsville, Texas. The incoming NP can be a new grad, although surgical experience is preferred. Primarily a clinic based opportunity, although some hospital rounding may be requested if the surgeon needs or requests support.
Qualifications/Job Duties: - Nurse Practitioner must have completed a Master's degree from an accredited program, and have the ability to obtain or maintain an active Texas medical license and be in good standing.
- Clinic schedule is Monday - Friday, from 8 am - 5 pm, although a rare weekend may be requested to support as needed with plenty of advanced notice.
- The incoming NP would be primarily paired with a long standing, employed general surgeon, but would also be asked to help a colon and rectal surgeon on rare occasions.
- Duties include seeing pre-op patients for colonoscopies/EGDs, Post-Op Patients and wound care patients.
- Expected to see an additional 20 patients per week, these will be more established patients than new patients. Established patients are usually follow ups for GERD, results, etc.
- NP will be expected to call patients to follow up after surgeries, usually next day, and assist the surgeon with charts and fill in: ROS, Examination, Assessment and availability of records (colonoscopy report, pathology report, etc.).
- Refill prescriptions when needed.
- Review pre-op labs, imaging, pathology reports/results to pin point abnormalities and take necessary action.
- Create and sign patient prescription for colonoscopy procedure or send electronically during visit.
