About the Department: Provide fiscal services to the university, promoting financial best practices, forming strategic partnerships, establishing efficient systems, and pursuing continuous improvement. Create and maintain a sustainable financial framework and strong internal controls to promote sound fiscal management, careful stewardship of university resources, and accountability. Foster innovation to support Mason's overall mission by employing new methods to deliver financial services and collaborating on process improvements and new initiatives. Provide accurate and timely financial data to ensure comprehensive reporting, compliance, and analysis to enable strategic decision-making.
About the Position: The chief objective of the position is to execute a clear and effective strategy for finance learning and engagement by: providing communication and leadership support for unit initiatives, curating financial learning assets, policies and procedures, overseeing all aspects of Fiscal Training and engagement activities, and evaluating analytical data and metrics to enhance resource deployment and service delivery.
Responsibilities: - Responsible for setting goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with the university's plans and vision and communicate them to subordinates; organizing workflow and ensuring that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks; monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching; receiving complaints and resolving problems; maintaining timekeeping and personnel records; passing on information from upper management to employees and vice versa; preparing and submitting performance evaluations; deciding on rewards and promotions based on performance; hiring and training new employees; ensuring adherence to legal and university policies and procedures and undertaking disciplinary actions if the need arises;
- Support strategic communication for new initiatives, processes, systems and technologies through direct engagement with Fiscal Services and the broader stakeholder community, often serving as a key point of connection between them. Champion large multiunit projects and strategic initiatives to implement new policies, processes and/or technologies for business and financial projects. Identify, evaluate and propose opportunities to strengthen stakeholder engagement and satisfaction. Collect, evaluate and summarize analytical data and metrics for finance learning and engagement activities to inform effective strategic planning and annual goals;
- Interpret state and federal financial standards and regulations to develop and improve Mason's policies and procedures. Review existing fiscal policies and procedures to incorporate updates and draft new or revised policies and procedures to address changing regulations and/or systems;
- Direct the delivery and design of a comprehensive university-wide training program related to finance policies and procedures. Create customized resources, presentations and/or trainings at the request of university stakeholders. Design technical training documents and support end-users of financial systems (ERP, travel, finance, e-commerce);
- Supervise and support Fiscal Services' HR Specialist, overseeing onboarding, training, position management, professional development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within Fiscal Services. Assist in building resources and professional development tracks based on trends and organizational needs; and
- Support and collaborate with units within and outside of Fiscal Services to provide clear communications and training on administrative processes within the university, facilitate knowledge sharing and feedback opportunities for units to suggest process improvements. Lead strategic partnerships to facilitate knowledge sharing, organizational change management efforts, and continuous improvement. Manage Webmaster duties for the Fiscal Services website ensuring content stays current and useful to the community.
Required Qualifications: - Demonstrated record of delivering initiatives from conception through implementation and effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives;
- Experience leading diverse, multi-unit project management teams;
- Understanding of how to leverage change management techniques in order to make the needed forward progress;
- Exemplary communication skills, including astute listening and effective spoken and written communication;
- Demonstrated ability to convey relevant, sometimes complex information in clear and concise manner;
- Creative problem-solving ability, with the ability to negotiate solutions and reach consensus;
- High level of emotional intelligence and people skills, with an emphasis on resilience;
- Ability to work independently as a productive member of a team, under pressure of deadlines/timelines, and within the context of understanding demands placed on the people that you are collaborating with;

Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in related field;
- Experience with financial procedures, systems, internal control best practices;
- Supervisory/management experience;
- Prior experience with training and communications;
- Knowledge of state and/or university procedures and policies related to financial management; and
- Knowledge of fiscal management best practices.
