Job description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Division Database Manager combining
expertise in Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, data analysis, and security systems to create
seamless and advanced solutions in the integration of security camera systems, drone usage, and GIS
enhancements. Assists in enhancing existing business processes through research, evaluation, and proposals for
system improvements. Performs GIS analysis, data creation, and data analysis to assist with data management
needs. Creates and maintains the division’s website. Interacts with business customers, IT personnel, members of
management, and GIS software users to provide GIS administrative support and information pertaining to
mapping and analysis projects. Establishes and maintains working relationships with regional public safety GIS
practitioners, GIS data providers, and consumers. Assist management in enhancing existing business processes
through research, evaluation, and proposals for system improvements. Leads and conducts various mapping
research to ensure accurate data is received and entered. Implements projects or services involving (GIS) software
dealing with mapping and coordinating technical functions. Produces, develops, and maintains high-quality maps
from GIS data including charts, models, and reports for presentations and recording keeping. Analyzes business
application requirements for functional areas of Public Works. Creates, maintains, and updates databases and
spatial data using thematic mapping techniques, geography, graphics, aerial and satellite data. Troubleshoots and
resolves application issues. Manages information including data collection, data integrity, process documentation
and data dissemination. Supplies electronic and hardcopy map-based presentation materials for meeting as
needed. Creates and prepares a variety of correspondence, proposals, memoranda, and other written documents.
Provides GIS administrative support and information pertaining to mapping and analysis projects. Aids in
purchasing, deploying, maintaining, updating, and managing software products for end users’ devices.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides a leadership role in maintaining data quality assurance/quality control procedures and standards.
2. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer, scanner, copier, and telephone.
Requires the ability to read Engineering and GIS related maps and drawings. Requires traversing uneven land
when conducting onsite visits throughout the City.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Travels occasionally to
other site locations throughout the City for mapping inspections and property activities. May be exposed to
changing weather conditions, traffic, noises, fumes, weeds, and insects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, Engineering or closely
related field and six (6) years’ professional experience utilizing GIS techniques and processes including specific
experience using ESRI GIS software; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform
the essential job functions. Working experience supporting mapping requirements in addition to the knowledge
of related data and working experience with Microsoft Office Suites, Oracle Applications preferred.******************************************************************************************
