Job description

SAGA Diagnostics is seeking a Senior Molecular Technologist to join our new and growing team in Morrisville, NC. In this role the Senior Molecular Technologist will operate as a leader amongst a team of technologists, performing molecular testing and analysis in alignment with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and rigorous clinical requirements. The Senior Molecular Technologist will need to have a deep understanding of SAGA’s workflows and SOPs in order to train other technicians within the lab and optimize workflows. In general, the Senior Molecular technologist will need to be flexible, detail oriented, and able to operate independently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Laboratory Processes:

• Manage the preparation and processing of genetic material for extractions, dPCR, and sequencing. Utilize advanced technologies to generate comprehensive and accurate genomic data. Ensure that results meet predefined standards and adhere to regulatory requirements.
• Document and report analysis results according to established procedures, ensuring all findings are accurate, clear, and complete.
• Troubleshoot incidents and perform root cause analysis (RCA) on non-conformances in partnership with Molecular Supervisor. If needed, adjust SOPs and other documentation.
• Leverage deep understanding of SOPs and work instructions to train and support other team members.

Laboratory Operations:

• Conduct regular maintenance of laboratory equipment to sustain optimal functionality and performance. Execute routine checks, calibrations, and preventive measures to ensure reliability and accuracy of results.
• Manage and monitor the inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents. Ensure an adequate and organized stock to support ongoing operations without interruptions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
• MS in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science and 2 years in a CLIA/CAP high-complexity laboratory (Possessing 1 year of direct experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
• BS in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science and 4+ years, in a CLIA/CAP high-complexity laboratory (Possessing 2 years of direct experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
• Experience with robotics and automated liquid handling systems
• Significant nucleic acid purification and other molecular biology skills
• Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS), with preference for candidates with experience using Illumina NovaSeq 6000 or NovaSeq X
• Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) as well as Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Experience maintaining timely, accurate, and detailed lab records while maintaining patient data privacy.
• Strong communication skills and desire to work in a highly collaborative environment.
• Commitment to obtaining 12 continuing education hours annually in the field of oncology or molecular biology.

DETAILS:

Reports to: Assoc. Director, Clinical Operations
Primary Location and Work Arrangement: Morrisville, NC, On-Site
Hours: Full time. Schedule will begin at 5 days per week, 8 hours each day and transition to four days a week, 10 hours each day. Shifts will either fall from 7:30 AM – 4 PM or 3 PM – 11:30 PM.
Hourly Rate: Competitive based on background. $29 - $43 / hour
Preferred Start Date: February 5, 2024
