United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) is North America’s neighborhood union; standing together to improve the lives and livelihoods of workers, families and communities. Our members work primarily in the retail food, meatpacking, poultry, food processing and manufacturing and retail store industries.

Position Description:
The law clerk will work closely with attorneys to produce legal research and writing on important worker issues, including labor and civil rights laws and related legal proceedings and legislation. The work of law clerks supports the goals of the union’s officers and staff, including to further organizing campaigns and engage in legislative advocacy at the federal and state level. Law clerks also assist in developing potential litigation and counseling decision-makers, including affiliate local unions and the UFCW’s regional and program-level staff. We involve law clerks as much as possible in discussions with attorneys and staff so that clerks may understand how their work fits into the union’s wider mission, and how unions develop strategies for organizing workers and advancing worker interests.

Requirements:
Currently in law school and having completed one year of law school. Strong written and oral communication skills. Commitment to progressive social change, worker rights, the labor movement, and/or economic justice. Please note the clerk position is open only to current law students.
Compensation:
$25.00 per hour; 15-25 hours per week; and preferably with as many consecutive hours per day and days per week as possible.
Location: The law clerk will work in-person at our office located at 1775 K St. NW, Washington, D.C.
Duration:
Fall Semester 2024
