This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a combination of onsite and remote work.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean and working closely with the Dean and Associate Dean for Faculty Advancement and Success, the Academic Personnel and Business Operations Manager is primarily responsible for the process and performance management of the Academic Personnel (AP) team in both the Dean's office and school departments. As Academic Personnel manager, the incumbent supervises the Dean's office AP staff and works to create dotted and/or direct-line supervision of department staff over time. The incumbent focuses on the AP process, creating efficient movement of information and files from the department to the Dean's office through APS and other campus reviewers. Identifying and utilizing best practices within policy and adherence to the Dean and Associate Dean's guidance, the AP manager creates a community of AP professionals who work together to most efficiently process all AP actions within the School. The AP manager works to ensure workload balance among AP staff, keeping performance and morale high through training, understanding obstacles, and creating resolutions to process issues in the realm of AP. Works closely with the Dean, Associate Dean, and Department Chairs to identify areas where the academic process can be made more efficient and effective to the benefit of faculty in the school and the timely review of their files and actions.
The incumbent additionally works with the Assistant Dean to develop business management leadership in areas of the Dean's office such as facilities/space management, event management, HR, and other functional areas as needed. This role will evolve over time as the unit works to support the needs of the School more completely. The incumbent will use advanced administrative concepts and organization objectives to resolve complex issues. Manage, plan, administer, and coordinate the administrative operations of a small to mid-sized academic or non-academic department or organizational unit, the operations of which are significantly complex and/or broad in scope. Performance of administrative operations activities is the predominant focus of this position. May supervise support staff or a small number of professional staff within or outside the scope of main business activities (e.g., student services, facilities, etc.). Perform short and long-term planning for the function. Regularly work on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals result in additional costs and serious delays in overall schedules.
Bachelor's degree in related area or an equivalent combination of experience/training.
Advanced knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and/or personnel management.
Advanced knowledge of and experience in the management of staff and organizational structures.
Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and/or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
Understanding of the functions of academic personnel, space/facilities management, human resources, and finance in an institution of higher learning.
Advanced understanding of how academic and administrative processes function in higher education. Proven ability to move new processes forward productively in this setting.
