Job description
The CDE software development teams for student and school data systems is looking for a software developer to provide ongoing support, and implement new features for the Department's public reporting web application, DataQuest working with the Accountability, Measurement and Reporting Division.
Performs system development for information technology (IT) systems using standard system development lifecycle methodologies (e.g. Agile) and following industry-standard development and security practices. System development includes the following:
• Designing custom IT systems, including all system components (e.g. web, desktop, server, API, databases, etc.) using department and industry standards and methodologies.
• Developing custom IT systems, including all system components (e.g. web, desktop, server, API, databases, etc.) using department and industry standards and methodologies.
• Implementing, testing, deploying (release management) and configuring IT systems (custom, commercial-off-the-shelf, etc.), including all system components (e.g. web, desktop, server, API, databases, etc.).
• Enhancing, maintaining, resolving and tracking defects of existing IT systems.
• Develop and maintain IT system documentation (e.g. design, coding, testing, etc.).
• Using the appropriate tools related to system development (e.g. source control, integrated development environment, etc.).
Analyzes and documents business processes as part of the system development lifecycle. Includes the coordination and consultation with program office staff and management to identify, analyze, and document business, functional, and technical requirements, necessary for IT system development. Develop research analysis reports related to technology solutions or products.
Develops project plans, schedules, and time estimates for custom IT systems. Effectively communicates (verbal, written) with colleagues, customers, and the Technology Services Division (TSD) managers and supervisors, reporting project status reports and providing project documentation, as required. Lead or direct the documentation of business processes or work flows, as necessary.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office. This position is remote-centered.

Information Technology Specialist I:In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
• Experience developing web applications in a cloud-first environment including using Software as a Service and Platform as a Service features.
• Experience with application development (i.e. web, console, interfaces, etc.).
• Experience with database development (i.e. design, stored procedures, views, etc.).
• Experience with user interface design, including web accessibility.
