Job description
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Product Manager maximizes product line performance, maintains the company’s product portfolio, and drives for attainment of the company’s revenue and profit targets from the assigned product range. He/she serves as the internal and external champion for the assigned product portfolio, working with company management, sales teams and key customers to ensure success for those products under his/her care. The Product Manager understands key metrics and financial levers for the business, and makes data-driven decisions to maximize product performance.
The Product Manager must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. He/she must enjoy spending time in the market to understand customer problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market. The Product Manager must be able to communicate effectively with all areas of the company. The Product Manager also works with marketing communications partners to define the go-to-market strategy, product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. He/she serves as the internal and external champion for the assigned product portfolio, working with company management, sales teams, new product development team, and key customers to ensure success for those products under his/her care. The Product Manager understands key metrics and financial levers for the business, and makes data-driven decisions to maximize product performance.
The Product Manager's role is part strategic and part tactical. Solid strategic planning skills are required, as well as the ability to execute strategy using available tactical resources. He/she must be smart, energetic, and relentlessly committed to improving the performance of assigned product lines while also having strong interpersonal skills and team orientation. The Product Manager reports to the Vice President, Product Development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages assigned product portfolio life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities.
- Achieves sales revenue and gross margin targets.
- Collaborates with team to set and maintains pricing schedules
- Collaboratively develops annual marketing plans for assigned product lines
- Specifies market requirements for current and future products
- Leads Line Reviews, Business Reviews, and Prospect Pitches
- Creates and maintains accurate comp shops for major product categories/segments
- Maintains and executes annual promotional calendar, including distributor show offers, big box promotions, and consumer offers
- Coordinates product management activities with brand/agency teams
- Generates Gross Profit Analysis (GPA) for proposed programs and / or pricing changes
- Maintains product roadmap for each brand – works with new product development team to ensure on-spec delivery of new products
- Develops/optimizes packaging, merchandising, and point of sale materials
- Develops training materials for internal and external customers
- Rationalizes product lines, leads disposition of obsolete and excess inventories
- Provides monthly analysis of business performance for monthly business review letter
- Research patent data on new products/programs
- Analyzes POS data and creates POG’s based on that data and works with customers on POG decisions (additions and deletions)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Product Management, preferably with a consumer product orientation.
- Demonstrated success at managing a product portfolio for consistent growth.
- Must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Team player mentality with ability to collaborate with others to achieve desired outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills – understanding data to drive the business.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. MBA preferred.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
- Big Box retail experience preferred.
SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $105,000 annually
