Job description

Summary

Spectra Tech has a need for an additional Environmental Technician 3 to support radiological operations at the plutonium facility at TA-55. Routine work activities include quantitative and qualitative field and laboratory operations involving air sampling at the nation's premier plutonium facility for compliance with institutional and federal requirements.

An Environmental Technician 3 is considered a skilled/fully proficient position. Applicants are expected to apply knowledge of the job, and Laboratory policies and principles to complete a wide range of tasks. Applicants are expected to have a wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field as well of general knowledge of other related disciplines. Assignments are usually focused while working within established priorities, procedures, processes, requirements or specifications. Priorities and tasks are usually prescribed. Impact of work is usually limited to a well-defined area of a project or specific assignment. Incumbent performs normal aspects of job with little or no direct supervision. General instructions are given for new assignments. Work is occasionally reviewed for soundness of judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. Some contributions for original work are expected.


Job Duties

1. Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Assures safety and security compliance, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
2. Provides information for permitting process for projects.
3. Provides information for public outreach activities.
4. Responds to project requirements in a timely manner.
5. Provides skilled implementation and development of current and new requirements and processes established in quality assurance project plan(s), and associated procedures.
6. Independently files and maintains records according to established protocols..
7. Maintains communication with facility customers, analytical laboratories, and group management to ensure operational issues are addressed.
8. Performs normal aspects of job with little or no direct supervision.
9. Provides skilled support and contributions toward technical activities in accordance with established procedures for environmental monitoring.
10. Independently operates equipment and conducts sampling procedures.
11. Independently maintains periodic inspections of equipment and performs preventative maintenance work.
12. Assembles, gathers, enters, analyzes data and maintains records pertinent to projects performed in conjunction with government agencies and consulting firms, for review by senior staff.
13. Works on special projects, as assigned.
14. Understands and adheres to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to radiation protection.
15. Ensures all environmental work, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
16. Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.


Education

Position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with this client requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of the client.


Additional Details


HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, *712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
