Director of Professional Development, Counsel

Alliance Defending Freedom is a looking for a highly professional  Director of Professional Development, Counsel in either our Scottsdale, AZ or Lansdowne, VA office. As the Director of Professional Development for the Blackstone Legal Fellowship, you are a vital part of the Blackstone Legal Fellowship Team. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Blackstone Legal Fellowship and are responsible for managing a professional development team that will help maximize the career trajectories of Blackstone Fellows. You will be responsible for fostering and developing relationships with professionals within the law firm, government, and business communities to create affinity with ADF and to expand and deepen the Team’s professional network, all to ultimately increase strategic employment opportunities for Blackstone Fellows. Title and Pay will be commensurate with experience.

Your Essential Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

• Design and implement comprehensive professional development programs for Fellows.
• Regularly update the curriculum to reflect current legal trends and practices.
• Oversee the summer internship program.

Mentorship and Coaching:

• Provide one-on-one mentoring to Fellows.
• Develop and oversee a network of external advisors.

Professional Growth Strategies:

• Create and implement strategies for the professional development of Fellows.
• Organize workshops, seminars, and guest lectures by eminent legal professionals.

Networking and Relationship Building:

• Facilitate networking opportunities for fellows with senior legal professionals.
• Build and maintain relationships with law schools and legal institutions.
• Collaboratively work with the team to ensure that the professional development staff is meeting the needs of both internal team members, Blackstone Fellows and employers who are seeking Blackstone Fellows as prospective employees.
• Travel to regional events and conferences.

Team Management:

• Act as a servant leader by training, encouraging, coaching, and developing your Team Member(s).
• Foster a spirit of trust and of innovation on your team.
• Meet regularly with your Team Member(s) to discuss their progress and complete performance reviews.
• Approve PTO requests, time cards, and expense reports.

Skills you need to succeed:

Knowledge of:

• Legal profession of both the private and public sectors.
• Organization's policies, standards, and procedures guiding ADF Brand.

Demonstrated proficiency in:

• Communication skills, both written and oral
• Interpersonal and networking skills
• Project management
• Team leadership
• Attention to detail with high standards of quality

Ability to:

• Travel extensively, including full participation in the Blackstone Legal Fellowship summer program.
• Work, motivate, and initiate within a team and independently.
• Provide innovative leadership and project development.
• Effectively speak to and motivate high-level audiences.

Education and/or experience:

• Juris doctor from an accredited law school
• A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably with experience in education or professional development and an understanding of both the public and private sectors of the legal profession.
