SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Golf, Tennis & Club Grounds Operations, the  Assistant Superintendent participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, and fairways, and assists with oversight of Club grounds, and Tennis court maintenance.
In this role, you will be responsible for supervising the maintenance of these areas and the activities of the employees. This includes monitoring job performance and daily playing conditions for quality standards, maintaining cleanliness and organization of the maintenance facility (to include equipment, materials, and tools), participating in agronomic operations, and keeping accurate and timely records of all business activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways as well as Grounds and Tennis Court Maintenance; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of equipment
• Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticides applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance or irrigation and drainage systems
• Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline.
• Plan and participate in the applications of fertilizers and plant protectants.
• Participate in the daily assignment of equipment to employees and inspect for proper use, cleaning, and storage to assigned parking.
• Coordinate with mechanics to ensure preventative maintenance, repairs, and readiness of equipment fleet.
• Observe and evaluate playing conditions (moisture, mowing quality, bunker raking, course set up, tennis court conditions) to take corrective action or report to Superintendent.
• Maintain effective employee and member relations.
• Assist the Superintendent in keeping records of maintenance activities, including but not limited to job tracking, and fertilizer and plant protectant applications as required by law.
• Have a working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the planning cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells; pumps and automatic controls
• Follow and comply with company and departmental safety policies to ensure a safe work environment.
• Must acquire current state certification of licensing as a pesticide applicator

REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum 2-year turf certificate in turf grass management from a recognized college or university or 2 years of golf course experience is required.
• Strong organizational, and time management skills required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as a part of a team
• Must have a valid driver's license
• The candidate will be required to obtain a State of Florida Pesticide License within 90 days of employment.
