This position is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of the Genomics laboratory. The individual determines best practices, writes and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) associated with these best practices and assures training/continuing education requirements are fulfilled.
- Supervises, trains, mentors, and develops assigned staff.
- Ensures adherence to SOPs, regulations, guidelines, practices and policies.
- Coordinates and prioritizes testing, assigning tasks, and scheduling adequate numbers of staff.
- Reviews assays and interprets results.
- Performs sequence analysis using software tools and reviews results.
- Reviews and signs off test results, maintains equipment logs and validation.
- Drafts and reviews patient and donor reports.
- Maintains the quality plan and responsible for quality assurance activities and competency evaluations of personnel.
- Communicates with other laboratories, clients, and transfusion services to provide guidance for testing.
- Prepares incident reports and assists with test discrepancy resolution.
- Serves as back-up for genomics testing, including PCR-based testing and array technologies.
- Prepares draft of abstracts for conferences.
- Presents on blood group genomics at conferences.
- Oversee the training of NYBC fellows, new employees, visitors, visiting SBB students.
- Participate in all regulatory agencies and internal inspections.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in clinical laboratory technology, or
- Bachelor's or higher degree from a program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences, and an advanced certificate in clinical laboratory technology, or
- Education and training sufficient to qualify for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to 2009 as specified in NYS-ED Regulation 79-13.4.
Experience:
- If bachelor’s degree with at least four years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.
- If master’s degree with at least two years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.
Licenses / Certifications:
- New York State Technologist License.
For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $154,450.00 p/yr to $161,950.00 p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
