Job description

High Expectations' mission is to help adult international students and immigrants become college- and career-ready through student-centered, engaging, research-based English language instruction, explore American culture and society with confidence, and eliminate barriers in achieving their academic, economic and personal goals.

What We Offer Candidates:


-A teaching experience for professionals interested in working outside of the public school system
-Intimate classroom size (15 students or less per class), which is important for student development
-An opportunity to teach English to immigrants and international students for 2 1/4 to 5 hours a day Monday through Thursday

ESL teachers' job duties include:

-Prepare and deliver engaging learner-centered lesson plans that incorporate a broad range of instructional techniques and strategies
-Provide a supportive and challenging learning environment that encourages student responsibility
-Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
-Administer academic language assessments for evaluating student's level of ability and progress
-Maintain record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures (attendance, student progress)
-Communicate classroom/student issues to the Assistant Director or Director in a timely manner
-Attend regular staff meetings and professional development workshops

Requirements:

-Bachelor's degree in ESL/EFL/TESOL/English or related majors. Master's degree in ESL/EFL/TESOL/English or related majors required to teach college preparation courses. If either degree is not in ESL/EFL/TESOL, the candidate must have a specific knowledge base and skill set that includes, at minimum:

Language teaching methodology
The nature of language (linguistics)
The structure of English (syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
Second language acquisition
Intercultural communication
Employment Type: Part-Time
Salary: $ 33.00 Per Hour
