Job Description:
As an Academic Advisor I, this individual will engage with partners across the university to highlight the benefits of pharmacy as a career, as well as become the point person that promotes our pipeline programs and Pharm.D. program at UF events. This individual will also assist with academic advisement for pre-health professional students seeking admission to the College of Pharmacy. This position will manage, track and help the Pharmacy Early Assurance Program (PEAP) grow. Other responsibilities involve assisting with the recruitment of students, teaching an orientation seminar to UF freshmen, preparing a newsletter, maintaining accurate records for reports and interaction with computer systems established by the University to track and advise students.
STUDENT RECRUITMENT - Develop and maintain relationships with potential applicants, advisors, and other connections on campus, and provide information about our pipeline programs, pharmacy careers, prepharmacy course requirements, application procedures, admission criteria, financial aid, the professional doctorate curriculum, and joint combination degree programs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the UF Admissions department, the UF Pre-Health Advisors, the UF feeder colleges of biology (CLAS and CALS), the UF Nutritional Food Sciences program advisors, the UF Career Connections department and any other program or department that could feed students to our program.
- Work with the UF Pre-Pharmacy Society to expand membership to prospective students from the local feeder state schools.
- Coordinate visits with prospective UF students, high school field trips to campus, visiting Pre-Pharmacy student organizations, coordinate skills lab experiences for prospective UF students.
- Represents the College of Pharmacy at UF hosted Open Houses, College and Career Fairs and advise prospective students on the UF COP Pharm.D. Program. STUDENT ADVISING AND CAREER PLANNING
- Responsible for assisting with academic advising services to UF pre-pharmacy and other UF undergraduate prospective students at the College of Pharmacy to include prerequisite course requirements and general education curriculum requirements through the use of the Student Academic Support System (SASS) and Universal Tracking (UF), college admission procedures and requirements, and alternative career plans.
- Coordinate the Pharmacy Early Assurance Programs. Advertise the program, evaluate applications, assist with educational sessions, track student attendance and academic progress, track pharmacy student ambassador involvement. Attend individual student and group meetings. Assist with workshops.
- Assist with and facilitate in the First Year Florida seminar courses for freshmen at the University of Florida.
- Participate as a representative of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Florida's Preview program. Provides incoming freshmen and transfer students with information and materials regarding educational and possible career choices related to the College of Pharmacy.
- Assists with the administration of the University of Florida's Universal Tracking and SASS system by reviewing the progress of students wishing to gain admission to the College of Pharmacy.
- Represents the college at numerous University events related to advisement. Represents the college at the Undergraduate Advising Council. Serves as one of the liaisons of the college to the University of Florida's Academic Advising Center.
- Advise prospective students regarding program options, admission requirements, pre-professional course requirements, and deadlines. Evaluate transcripts for equivalencies of required courses, grades, withdrawals, and grades less than C. Advise on the prospective student's academic pathway to ensure success and completion of the required pre-professional courses. These activities are accomplished via email, telephone, walk-in visits, electronic meetings and personal advising appointments.
- Keep accurate records of students' progress and create reports for each PEAP program and prepharmacy track students at the end of the semester. Track information in Salesforce.
- Track and advise students in the 3+4 program to ensure they follow procedures for graduating from their undergraduate program after the first year of pharmacy school. STRATEGIC OUTREACH
- Design events that help foster relationships with UF advisors and increase awareness of our Pharm.D. Program along with the career opportunities for pharmacists so they will advise their students to consider the COP Pharm.D. Program.
- Assist in the development and keep current the strategic plans for outreach and recruitment (Local, UF, Florida, National).
- Represent the College at recruitment functions (health profession fairs) at UF. OTHER DUTIES
