SUMMARY:

This organization has pioneered an innovative model, the sole one of its kind in New York City, co-locating a licensed mental health clinic and children's centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. They offer a variety of tailored youth development programs and services to address each child's unique strengths and challenges, cultivating an uplifting environment to nurture hope and resilience.

Position Overview: This newly established role reports to the Senior Vice President of Organizational Development and Initiatives. Collaborating with the Development and Communications Team, the Director of Development acts as an ambassador and resource generator for the organization. The primary objective of this leadership position within the growing organization is to elevate the organizations vision and mission to diverse audiences and encourage engagement as donors, sponsors, funders, volunteers, and community partners. The Director of Development, a hands-on senior leader, will develop, execute, and oversee strategic fundraising and communication campaigns, community engagement initiatives, and special events to achieve revenue targets. In this capacity, the Director of Development will contribute to shaping the communication strategy and collaborate with the organizations PR Firm. The ideal candidate will network and establish relationships within the criminal justice reform movement and seek community partnership opportunities. They will also facilitate community events such as panel discussions and speaking engagements for the CEO and other key staff, and collaborate with staff to enhance visibility of the organizations program model to attract more participants to the Brooklyn and Bronx locations.

The Director of Development possesses a proven track record of managing development operations and robust experience in communications and digital marketing. This dynamic leader will strive to raise $3 million towards the organizations $5.6 million budget and will oversee the Grants Manager, Volunteer Program Manager, Development and Communications Associate, and Development and Data Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions:

• Nonprofit Development Management: The Director of Development will lead team development, effectively collaborate with program, finance, and operations, and regularly report progress to senior management and the board.
• Corporate Partnerships: Managing corporate relations, creating volunteer opportunities, and soliciting sponsorship for special events and community activities.
• Individual Giving: Overseeing the individual giving program, cultivating donor relationships, and expanding the donor base through major gifts, appeals, and special events.
• Special Events: Leading the planning and execution of annual events, including program development, sponsor recruitment, and stakeholder engagement.
• Foundation Grants: Collaborating with the Grants Manager to cultivate foundation relationships, submit proposals, and provide necessary documentation for grant submissions and reporting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

• 7+ years of development, fundraising, communications, and nonprofit management experience preferred.
• Bachelors or advanced degree.
• Strong appreciation for the organization's mission and work.
• Experience in Board, committee, and volunteer management.
• Visionary leadership and project management skills.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to strategize fundraising and communication campaigns.
• Experience in soliciting and closing major gifts.
• Excellent writing, researching, and project management skills.
• Proficiency in special event management and engaging the media.
• Expertise in digital donor engagement and database management.
  Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with attention to detail.
• Relevant experience with confidential information and high integrity.
• Proficiency in overseeing databases and software for development and communication operations.
