Duties

The Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a Full-Time Nurse Practitioner.. The Nurse Practitioner will function in the Community Living Center section of the Geriatrics, Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service. The Nurse Practitioner must possess a broad-based clinical knowledge to effectively manage acute and chronic illnesses of resident residing in the Community Living Center. The Nurse Practitioner works with the Geriatric Attending Physician to care for residents who require a dynamic array of treatments in the CLC including short-stay rehabilitation, short-stay IV therapies, complex wound care, long-stay continuing care, long-stay mental health, and long-stay dementia residents. The Nurse Practitioner works in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team which includes Nurses, Social Work, Psychologist, Dieticians, Recreation Therapists, Physical Therapist, Chaplain, Occupational Therapist as well as consultative services from other medical and surgical disciplines. Duties include admission history and physical, comprehensive monthly round visits with Nursing, Pharmacy and the attending physician, and acute visits to residents as conditions warrant.

Basic Requirements :

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.



Physical Requirements: Heavy Lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy Carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight Pulling (2-6 hours); Pushing (2-6 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (5-9 hours); Standing (4-8 hours); Kneeling (1-2 hours) Repeated bending (2-4 hours); Climbing, legs only (1-2 hours), Twisting (2-4 hours), Working closely with others.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time Nurses, and Nurse Anesthetists at the rate of 8 hours for each full biweekly pay period.
