Summary
The University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) is seeking a writer/editor who will write UMSI's Re-Accreditation report for its 2025 American Library Association (ALA) Self-Study. Working with the Accreditation Task Force, Standards Committees, and project manager, the writer/editor will perform a sequence of writing and editing tasks meeting multiple draft deadlines leading up to the submission of the final report in January 2025.

Responsibilities*
- Help set preliminary guidelines for members of the Standards Committees to generate and record raw text (bullet points, lists, etc.).
- Review and synthesize all raw text submitted by members of the Standards Committees.
- Identify information gaps and advise members of the Standards Committees where additional data or analysis is needed.
- Compose multiple drafts of the Self-Study Report to share with members of the Task Force and others according to established timelines.
- Attend meetings with the project manager or Task Force as needed.
- Communicate with other members of Task Force and Standards Committees, and incorporate relevant feedback into subsequent revisions of the report.
- Create a comprehensive final report that reflects the ideas of Task Force and the Standards Committees in a balanced and organized fashion.
- Assume a unified authorial voice in writing the report.
- Edit the final document according to professional writing standards that pertain to grammar, mechanics, and style, in conjunction with other committee members designated to assist with editing.
- Abide by ALA guidelines for formatting and submitting the final report document, in conjunction with a designer.
- After submission of the document, be available to consult with ALA staff and accreditation site team members, if needed.
- Throughout the process, read and gain understanding of accreditation-related materials to become familiar with ALA guidelines and concerns, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Experience as a writer/editor on a major collaborative writing project
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize information and data
- Experience working with a wide range of technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps products and managing data
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, exercise sound decision-making on relevant issues, and meet deadlines independently
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience writing an accreditation report
- Experience working in a higher education setting
Additional Information
You must be eligible to work in the United States, as visa sponsorship is not available for this position. In addition, while remote work is allowable for this position, all work must be performed within the United States and its territories.
