Job description
Purpose: The Controller is responsible for preparing and distributing accurate and timely financial statements for the company according to GAAP, tax, and legal requirements. This person will streamline our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. The Controller will also produce thorough management reports for executive leadership to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth. The Controller regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion when determining the department's strategic objectives, making decisions of significance that could be binding on the organization.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: - Establish (in coordination with CFO and COO) financial and operating forecasts (open-to-buy, marketing, store expenses, personnel, etc.).
- Provide comprehensive and timely monthly financial reporting to executive leadership by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points (P&L for each store, forecast updates, balance sheet, and daily cash flow).
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures, adhering to national and local legal standards.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize the protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Manage and optimize month-end processes (including reconciliations for major accounts).
- Manage tax reporting and payment.
- Manage relationships with credit card processors and banks.
- Manage insurance renewals and income tax fillings. Track capital expenses and leases.
- Oversee and support AR and AP teams.
- Ability to analyze data and use sound judgment to make informed decisions that support business objectives and align with financial, accounting, and legal best practices.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and Education ● BS/BA degree in Accounting.
● Minimum of 8 years of related professional experience.
● Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis.
● Working knowledge of direct and indirect tax compliance requirements.
● Experience in managing payroll.
● Excellent project management and organization skills.
● Learns quickly and can change in a fast-paced environment.
● Ability to handle the pressure of meeting tight deadlines.
● Ability to work well with others and take in coaching from upper management.
● Expert in Excel.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) and Education ● Master’s degree in accounting, CPA, CA, or MBA.
● Five or more years of experience in senior-level accounting or finance management.
● Experience with luxury retail.
● Experience restructuring teams.
● Experience implementing new software systems and restructuring teams.
Physical and Mental Abilities ● Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
● Sit for up to 8 hours a day with small breaks.
● Ability to go up and downstairs.
Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30 AM- 5 PM
