QUALIFICATIONS

• Competence in areas such as CPR, First Aid, behavioral management, and medication administration
• Ability to redirect maladaptive behaviors and model the appropriate behavior
• Proficiency with computers and programs like MS Word and Excel
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Rhode Island driver's license, good driving record, and reliable vehicle that can transport clients
• Patient demeanor, strong communication skills, and attention to detail

1+ years of related experience or an undergraduate degree in a field such as social work, psychology, or occupational rehabilitation would be preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience would also be a bonus! 2+ years of experience working in a community setting with people with disabilities would also be preferred.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your hours are flexible and dependent on our participants' schedules. We'd prefer a candidate who can work 8-hour shifts if needed.

As a Direct Support Professional, you provide comprehensive support to our program participants and help them achieve the goals in their individual service plan (ISP). You assist participants in areas such as work readiness, job placement, and vocational training, connecting individuals with the best opportunities for their strengths and interests. Additionally, you help teach socialization skills, assist with personal hygiene, and administer medication.

You encourage participants to get more involved in the community, supporting them with tasks like navigating public transportation, opening a bank account, and engaging in recreational activities where they can meet new people. Overall, your care and support empower every participant to live their best lives!
