Position: Cattle Accountant/Production Analyst

Position Summary: This hands-on, full-time position performs day-to-day duties, including recommending cattle procurement strategies to further the company's goals and objectives. This position directs and handles the daily activities of the Cattle Department's accountant operations. The role primarily analyzes cattle/carcass requirements through knowledge of cattle procurement and contracting methods, principles, and practices. It applies this knowledge when procedures may not be defined, with an understanding of overall cattle/carcass company operations.
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities - Coordinates the accumulation, review, analysis, forecasting, and reporting of cattle procurement performance on past, present, and expected operations for use by management in its decision-making process.
- Develops and organizes cattle/carcass and procedures that accurately account for cattle/carcass costs and inventories. Develops and compiles reports for analysis of metrics such as availability of cattle, slaughter and performance data, and carcass cost.
- Assist with making necessary corrections and resolves any pricing or terms issues with cattle contracts.
- Performs and directs accounting of cattle financial transactions, calculates payments along with adds and subtracts inventory.
- Maintain cattle records and affidavits associated with the purchase and sales of cattle.
- Review all aspects of cattle acquisition procedures and related documents for the cattle acquisition program and recommend updates to cattle acquisition procedures and related documents (annual).
- Assisted in scheduling cattle for harvest and handling all related documents (USDA).
- Support and Assist SVP Cattle procurement and cattle buyers.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Education: Associate degree is preferred.
Experience: 3+ years of industry-related experience is required.
Specialized Skills - Advanced understanding and working knowledge of both cattle procurement and accounting principles and their relation to the company’s accounting policies.
- Advanced math skills.
- Competent PC skills (Intermediate MS Excel & MS Word)
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with employees, customers, vendors, and other business contacts.
Salary Range: $65k to $79k
