Our client, a boutique Public Accounting Firm is seeking a qualified Public Tax Manager to lead our tax department. This is a pivotal role within the organization that requires a blend of expertise in tax compliance, managerial acumen, and public service dedication.
Responsibilities:
Tax Policy and Compliance:
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local tax laws to ensure full compliance.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of all government tax documents.
- Manage the annual audit of tax matters and liaise with internal and external auditors.
- Advise on tax policy matters and implications of new laws or ordinances.
Team Leadership and Professional Development:
- Lead a team of tax professionals, providing mentorship and facilitating professional growth.
- Train staff on new tax regulations and best practices.
- Allocate and manage resources effectively to meet deadlines and organizational objectives.
Public Communication:
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies for tax education to the public.
- Work closely with other departments to streamline public-facing tax operations.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding tax issues, serving as a key point of contact.
Budgeting and Financial Planning:
- Develop annual budgets for the tax department, monitor financial expenditures, and report to senior leadership.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of the city’s financial and tax-related strategic objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field. Master’s degree or CPA certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in tax compliance and management, preferably within the public sector.
- In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local tax codes and regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on team development and operational efficiency.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High level of integrity and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
