Your Responsibilities
As a Safety Manager for John Deere Des Moines Works located in Ankeny, IA , you will:
- Monitor and review performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility. Take action to improve performance and to resolve noncompliance with the organization's HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions.
- Provide specialist safety advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others.
- Investigate all kinds of safety incidents and reports and provide expert advice to more senior colleagues. Minimize risk exposures and ensure adherence with regulatory standards by working with all internal functions to make sure compliance programs are properly implemented.
- Communicate the local safety action plan; explain how this relates to the function's strategy and action plan and to the broader organization's mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals.
- Develop and propose own safety performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization's performance management systems to improve personal performance. Or manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project/account team members and hold people accountable for achieving them, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives.

What Skills You Need
- 5 or more years of comprehensive safety knowledge and skills to providing guidance and training to others on identifying and assessing risks, influence corrective actions and engineered solutions to prevent recurrence to keep employees safe.
- 5 or more years of comprehensive safety knowledge and/or skills to independently engage in strategic planning while making sure they match overall enterprise and factory strategy and objectives.
- 5 or more years of experience using clear and effective communication skills to express ideas, request action, inspire, motivate and compels employees to lead with a safety-first mindset.
- Strong collaboration skills to drive support and alignment to ensure compliance and execution of all enterprise and regulatory requirements.
- 5 or more years of experience leveraging data to drive decisions, influence change and employee behaviors.
- 5 or more years of experience developing, monitoring, interpreting and understanding policies and procedures, while making sure they match organizational strategies and objectives.
- 5 or more years of experience working at an advanced level to shift into and out of a mental mindsets associated with assessing the facts and circumstances of the current situation and/or environment and making the appropriate/innovative adjustments to thinking and work habits to thrive in any scenario.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Ability to work without supervision and provide technical guidance when required on achieving full compliance with applicable rules and regulations in management and/or operations.
- Ability to provide technical guidance when required on analyzing data from multiple sources to draw appropriate conclusions and make suitable recommendations.
