Job description
Viterbo University invites applications for the Major Gift Officer position. Under the supervision of the Director for Major and Planned Gifts, this position is a key contributor to help the university increase and manage its philanthropic giving during its comprehensive campaign. The Major Gift Officer's primary responsibility is to discover, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals supporting Viterbo University's campaign and all its components seeking support.
Please Note: This position is Fulltime, 12-month, Exempt and is approved for the campaign period of 5 years ending December 31, 2028.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop key relationships with identified donor prospects and corporate sponsors. An emphasis on generating gifts/pledges for all the components of the comprehensive campaign.
- Develop a strategy to identify current President's Society donors ($1,000 giving level) and work to increase their giving to the major gift level ($25,000 giving level).
- Bridge the Advancement Office and the Athletic Office by serving as the liaison on major gifts, sponsorships, and special affinity giving. This requires working with the Director of Athletics, Assistant Vice President for Leadership Gifts, the Director of Alumni Engagement and Affinity giving, and the Corporate and Community Liaison.
- Prepare and facilitate personal contacts with potential donors for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes.
- Develop a comprehensive calendar that addresses all solicitation and stewardship activities for the campaign including prospective athletic donors.
- Attend advancement and athletic meetings and functions, with the purpose of hosting alumni, donors, and prospects.
- Interact with Donor Relations and Advancement Services regarding the stewardship of all donors and corporate sponsors.
- Collaborate with others to ensure appropriate database updates are made and do not contact lists are followed while researching new and current individuals to solicit.
General Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a preference for two years' experience in development, marketing, or related field
- Effective communication skills and ability to show evidence of strong organizational/interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in project management with strong performance; and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently on projects with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of annual fund raising and response rates; demonstrated analytical skills.
- Knowledge of fundraising and stewardship cycles
- Ability to strategically build and implement a program, achieve performance goals, and develop methods to achieve goals.
- Knowledge of collecting and analyzing marketing data and making programmatic decisions based on information.
- Skilled in interpersonal communications and public relations.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. Viterbo University is unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of the Employment Visa
