Reports to: Head of School
Job Summary:
BB&N is seeking a full-time dynamic educator with strong athletic coaching and administrating experience to lead the athletic program. The Athletic Director reports to the Head of School and is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team. They will lead and administer the schools' athletic programs and physical education department.
Specific responsibilities include:
Manage the Nicholas Athletic Center (which includes a fitness center, ice hockey rink, basketball courts, and wellness center)
Manage boat house and rowing equipment
Oversee 77 teams and 80+ coaches for grades 6-12
Hire, evaluate, and support all coaches (including faculty, administrative, and seasonal staff members)
Supervise 11 full-time staff members and 3 PE teachers
Manage a budget of $1.4 Million
Maintain membership with The Independent School League and New England Prep School Athletic Conference
Work in collaboration with Independent School League (ISL) athletic directors
Skills and Competencies:
The Athletic Director must have a bachelor’s degree; additional coursework or degree in education, physical education, and/or management helpful. Minimum of 10 years of professional-level experience, preferably in teaching and coaching in an independent school setting. Athletic administration experience is essential. In addition, the Athletic Director will demonstrate the following competencies:
Building and maintaining a strong and dynamic athletic program integrated with the educational mission of the school
Ability to work well with students at all levels and provide programs that encourage students of all ages and athletic abilities to participate.
Assessment of program and staffing for effectiveness
Budget management
Oversight of athletic buildings including development and implementation of policy on outside use and rentals
Leadership to build, develop, motivate, equip, evaluate, support, and manage a strong team of athletic department staff, faculty coaches, and seasonal coaches
Strong scheduling experience
Excellent communication skills; ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, parents, and administrators
Promotion of athletic programs and school to a wide constituency including significant support of admission and development efforts
Salary: $145,000.00 - $160,000.00
Compensation for full-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and other competitive benefits offerings. Benefits offered to eligible employees include health & dental insurance; commuter benefits; long-term disability insurance, and more.
