Job description
Davis & Floyd is seeking a talented Staff Transportation Engineer to join our team! We are looking for professionals with competent experience related to roadway design for public agencies including state departments of transportation and local governments. This position prefers an engineering background in the design of roadway projects with exposure to roadway drainage design, NEPA requirements, land disturbance permitting, and traffic control. Potential projects range from the design of county dirt-to-pave roads, traffic studies, intersection improvements, roadway safety improvements, roadway drainage, and major highway widening projects. Our goal is to give new team members the tools and support so they can develop into well rounded engineers as well as experts in their profession. Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following tasks:
- Assist in the development of preliminary plans through final construction plans and specifications in accordance with SCDOT methodology
- Understand and follow guidance outlined in the D&F Project Delivery Manual (PDM).
- Prepare final roadway plans, specifications and cost estimates with efficiency and accuracy
- Prepare design computations and quantity estimates
- Provide necessary coordination and follow-up on the work to ensure quality standards are met
- Assist in preparation of presentation materials and exhibits for client meetings and public review sessions
- Execute additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- BS degree in civil engineering
- EIT certification preferred
- Recent or soon to be graduates are acceptable, however, 2 years of experience in roadway design preferred. Internships or co-op experience in the transportation field a plus.
- Comprehensive knowledge of roadway design requirements (design experience in SC a plus)
- Proficient in Microstation, Geopak, ArcGIS, and OpenRoads preferred
- Self-motivated with ability to clearly communicate both orally and written
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Cooperative team member that will work well with others and work towards the unified goal of maintaining D&F as the preeminent engineering firm in South Carolina
