Position Description:
The Director of Accounting and Reporting assumes a key leadership role in the completion of annual audited financial statements and interim reports for the University of Louisville and its consolidated entities. The position requires a current and growing knowledge base concerning the regulatory requirements (GASB/FASB Standards) and general internal controls related to accounting and financial reporting. The position requires independent judgement capabilities, high level analytical skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.� Communications should be to clear and effective to address issues and resolve problems with internal and external constituents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and management of the University's accounting and reporting, including the preparation, analytical review, and completion of all financial statements.
- Provide support to University's financial administration including the Controller, CFO, and budget office as needed.
- Maintain the integrity of the University general ledger, chart of accounts, and related interfaces to/from the general ledger. Participate in the implementation of a new ERP system.
- Coordinate the annual audit for the University and affiliated organizations with external auditors and other component units of the University.
- Manage accounting staff responsible for capital assets, debt, general ledger administration, and financial reporting.�
- Interact with various finance functions across the University including payroll, payables, capital assets, procurement, budget, treasury, and grants management for internal control evaluation and annual financial statement preparation.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor adherence to institutional policies and procedures related to University accounting and financial reporting.
- Serve as the University's GASB/FASB expert and implement new accounting standards when released.
- Perform University and departmental training, present in seminars, and participate on University committees.
- Perform special projects including but not limited to the development and preparation of management reports and analytical data and other duties as assigned.
- Work with appropriate University staff to provide financial reports to regulatory authorities and bond rating agencies.
- Represent the department and participate in university-level financial/budget monitoring activities or other significant projects.
- Participate in long-term planning for financial administration's goals utilizing innovation, creativity, and ethical behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in producing annual financial reports under GASB standards.
- Knowledge of complex ERP financial systems, especially experience with the implementation of new ERP systems.
- Experience in presenting detailed and complex financial information to non-financial audiences.
- Knowledge of grants compliance regulations and concepts related to facilities and administrative cost calculations.
- 5 years related work experience which should include institutional/entity level experience in a higher education environment or an auditor at a CPA firm who has performed audits of institutions of higher education.
- Demonstrate knowledge of GAAP.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Proven self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction and oversight.
