SUMMARY:

The Department of Sociology at Niagara University seeks a part-time instructor for classes beginning in the Spring 2024 semester. We seek instructors who can teach two or more of the following courses: Sociology of the Family; Urban Sociology; Sociology of Health; Sociology of Aging; Women in Society; Introduction to Sociology. Daytime teaching availability is preferred, likely on a Tuesday/Thursday schedule. Niagara University Sociology is committed to academic rigor and constructive critical assessment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Prepare and execute course syllabi according to university and department standards

Maintain class records and attendance

Prepare and grade exams and other methods of evaluation

Prepare integrative lesson plans that promote student interaction

Instructs in a way that stresses sociological themes promoting an awareness of inequality in society

Be available for students by email and by appointment to help with any specific problems they might be having with course material.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of norms and standards in the field of Sociology

Ability to plan and present material in a concise, clear, and logical manner

Ability to work effectively independently

Initiative and resourcefulness

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Master's Degree in Sociology or a close area of specialization required.
