Teamsters Local 117
Union Representative
Based in Eastern WA
Teamsters Local 117 is a dynamic, progressive union representing private and public sector workers. We are seeking a Union Representative committed to social justice and fighting for the rights of working people. This position will primarily entail representing members who work at the Department of Corrections in Eastern WA.
Union Representatives at Local 117 perform a wide range of duties, including:
- Visiting worksites, building relationships with members
- Engage with members in an internal organizing program
- Grievance handling and investigation, and conducting Labor-Management meetings
- Steward trainings and regional meetings in their assigned areas
- Working as part of a team with other Local 117 Union Representatives
- Developing and executing campaigns, negotiating contracts and mid-term bargaining over mandatory subjects and working with member leaders to maintain contract enforcement
- Identify solutions that advance the interest of the membership and further the goals of the Union
Job Requirements:
- Ability to forge consensus with members and, at times, with management.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with members to keep the membership informed about the activities of their Union as it relates to their work
- Ability to visit all shifts (24/7) and all job classifications on a regular and frequent basis
- Ability to work more than 40 hours, seven days a week, during odd hours on a rotating schedule
- Strong writing and record keeping skills
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel); Salesforce experience would be a plus
- Ability to work independently, to manage your time effectively, and to prioritize
- Strong analytical skills
- A proven track record of representing employees is preferred
- Ability to travel on a regular basis
- A credit card with sufficient credit to cover out of pocket expenses (reimbursements are monthly)
- Ability to pass a background check to gain access to restricted areas of facilities
