The Motion Picture Editors Guild (MPEG) is a national labor organization currently representing nearly nine thousand freelance and staff post-production professionals that are located across the country. Ours is the world's premier craft guild that sets the standards for excellence in the post-production industry.

The Guild seeks a Project Organizer for a nationwide external organizing campaign focused on a population of freelance professional employees working across multiple employers in the industry.

The Guild is seeking an individual that is dependable, has a strong work ethic, and has a demonstrated commitment to building worker power through organizing. The position is based in Los Angeles but will entail some travel to other post-production hubs. The successful candidate will work closely with and under the direction of the Guild’s National Organizer, who is also based out of Local 700’s Hollywood offices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Recruiting, training, and providing guidance to volunteer leaders and activists within the community of potential union members.
• Conducting organizing committee meetings and meetings of potential union members.
• Performing outreach to and assessment of potential union members.
• Coordinating outreach and assessment performed by leaders and activists on the organizing committee.
• Maintaining extensive records of potential union members, their employment, and their engagement with the campaign.
• Identifying and researching target employers.
• Working with the Guild’s National Organizer and leadership to formulate and execute campaign strategy.
• Helping professional freelancers achieve union recognition through NLRB elections and/or voluntary recognition campaigns (including through recognition strikes).

• Ability to travel.

Qualifications include the following:

• A minimum of either
  • three years’ labor organizing experience working with professional employees, or
  • three years’ relevant experience in the entertainment industry.

Compensation: This is a salaried position. The annual salary range is $85,000 – $105,000 and will be commensurate with experience. Compensation includes excellent health and retirement benefits through the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plans.
