Senior Principal Engineer Roles and Responsibilities: - Provide process technical support to a range of Industrial Gases plants primarily across Spain, working closely with various operating and engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve critical plant issues.
- The position is responsible for supporting the source inspection team in Houston office, facilitating the inspection process, including issue resolution of inspection findings, in support of domestic and overseas projects. Work closely with specifying engineers, project team and procurement center to monitor & continuously improve supplier performance to drive toward no defects on delivered material
- Develop/refine plant Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Ensure excellence (budget, schedule, deliverable quality, low cost, and continuous improvement) in Detailed Engineering and Design for execution and product development of Standard Plants Products (PHG, N2 PSA, H2 PSA, O2 VSA, HPN, CO2 VSA, Electrolysis).
- Detailed mechanical engineering of cryogenic distillation columns, internals and other cryogenic equipment that we fabricate in house.
- Author specifications of process control equipment including control valves, relief valves, flow measurement devices, process instrumentation, analytical systems, and DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems, building competences to be come a checker and approver of others work.
- Support of Operating Plant Hazard Reviews (OPHR)s and associated safety improvements.
- Support model reviews, complete coldbox inspections
- Work with the proposal team (including third party engineering firms) to provide large machinery equipment and process equipment packages such as centrifugal/ reciprocating/screw compressors, steam/gas turbines (mechanical and generator drive), pumps, cooling towers, water treatment systems, oil removal systems, condensers, silencers etc., in project BED/FEED phases.
- Provide engineering support to identify performance gaps, solve problems, and develop solutions to resolve plant operational issues.
- Support Operations and ESPS with evaluations, calculations, studies as requested
- Travel to supplier and operating plant sites both domestically and internationally is required. The amount of travel is normally 15-30%.
Required Skills / Abilities
To be successful as part of the North America Process Engineering team, candidates must:
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English across all levels. Another spoken language would be beneficial.
- Willing to work a wide variety of scheduled days and hours, following strict fatigue management guidelines. Travel may be required as much as 25-45% depending on project.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and fundamentals and the ability to adapt previous knowledge to new applications and technologies.
- Develop a working relationship with The Product Line Teams as well as other groups within the Central Engineering Teams (Controls, Systems, Machinery, etc.)
- Have good commercial and fiscal awareness and actively seek lowest cost alternatives
- Motivate and supervise less experienced engineers
- 15+ years prior experience in Process, Operations, Process Systems, or Controls is preferred
- Detailed knowledge of one or more of the following technologies preferred: Syngas generation (Steam Methane Reformers, Auto Thermal Reforms, Partial Oxidation Reactors), Cryogenic Distillation, Air Separation Technology, Ammonia Production, Methanal, Helium Liquefiers, Hydrogen Liquefiers, Electrolysis, PSA Technology, Amine Systems, Gasification, CO2 Capture/purification
- Responsible for inventory management activities for HyCO spare equipment parts inventory stored both on and off site. Work with materials management and warehousing to update spares information as needed.
Education and Licensing Requirements: - B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering
