Description
This is a skilled technical position working under the general supervision of the GIS manager, performing professional technical work updating County GIS database and data layers to meet the Geographic Information System needs of Indian River County.
Essential Job Duties
Produces data layers, maps, tables, or reports, using spatial analysis procedures using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, equipment, or systems.
Designs or prepares graphic representations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, using GIS hardware and software applications.
Documents, designs, codes, or tests Geographic Information Systems (GIS) models, Web App solutions, or other applications.
Researches, creates, manages and maintains GIS spatial and tabulator data to provide users the most current and accurate available data.
Communicates with customers to analyze and evaluate customers’ GIS need
Fosters, implements, educates and assists employees in the use of GIS.
Assists in problem analysis and submits recommendations for solutions.
Assists in data analyses on spatial and tabular data to produce reports, maps, graphs and/or charts as requested by management and departments
Collects field data with GPS equipment and Esri’s Field Maps App.
Updates existing user accounts and databases.
Provides technical support for GIS desktop or online applications.
Attends GIS-related meetings, conferences, and workshops.
Typical Requirements
Education/Experience:
Minimum Associate Degree in Geography, GIS, Engineering, Earth Sciences, or related discipline supplemented by one (1) year of experience with GIS and GPS concepts and application, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience with County Standard GIS software
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
Valid Florida Driver’s License
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Experience with Local Government GIS applications.
Experience with GPS equipment and GPS software.
Knowledge of Geographic Information System principles and practices.
Knowledge of map compilation principles and practices.
Knowledge of GPS data collection principles and practices.
Knowledge of geographic projections and cartographic principles as demonstrated through coursework or work experience.
Knowledge of how to edit and maintain spatial data in Esri geodatabases, and ability to perform logical queries of the database.
Knowledge and proficiency with relational databases and tabular data.
Knowledge of GIS data conversion and GPS data collection concepts.
Skill and proficiency with ESRI software, specifically ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
Ability to analyze data and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, on technical mapping and GIS issues.
Ability to work effectively as a team member.
