JSDP Managing Editor

Position SummaryThe position entails four functions:
    Managing Editor of the Journal of Slavery and Data Preservation (45%). Responsible for the life cycle of datasets and data articles, from initial inquiries through submission, peer review or in-house review, production, and post-publication marketing and engagement. The Managing Editor will be a regular member of the Enslaved.org team, will provide oversight of graduate and undergraduate students endeavoring to contribute to the Journal, while also developing an independent, collaborative relationship with partner organizations in scholarly communications including but not limited to Michigan State University Press and Harvard Dataverse. The managing editor will manage the journal’s social media and convene meetings of the JSDP editorial board. Managing Editor for Enslaved.org (15%). Responsible for textual changes to the website social media, project publications and any new directions the project takes. The managing editor will oversee the Stories section of the website and solicit and edit submissions. The managing editor will organize meetings of the Enslaved.org board. The managing editor will also be responsible for organizing and participating in projects related to Enslaved.org, such as NEH summer institutes, panels, training workshops, webinars, partner projects with organizations, and events. Grant Writing (30%). Research grants and participate in the writing of grant proposals for Matrix. Other duties assigned. (15%) Undertake other duties at Matrix as assigned by the director of Matrix related to digital humanities and social sciences projects undertaken by the center and accompanying project management tasks.

This is a 100% appointment at Michigan State University starting in April 2024 (subject to negotiation) and will extend for 15 months, with an option to renew subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability to renew. The project manager reports to the Enslaved.org Co-Principal Investigators and the director of Matrix.

Required Degree

Doctorate -History
