Job Summary:
The Manager, Programming is responsible for the day-to-day scheduling of the SEC Network and other SEC Network responsibilities. In addition, the position will work closely with the Charlotte Studio Production and Event Production teams on day-to-day network activity and future show development for SEC Network. The position will require consistent communication and interaction with the broader College Sports Programming team and SECN Programming team in Charlotte, plus internal ESPN departments including Production, Ad Sales, Finance, Marketing, Communications, Research, Legal, Sales and Marketing, and Digital Media. This position is also the main day-to-day partner with the conference office regarding the scheduling of their events.
This person will lead the assembly of the 24/7 SEC Network program schedule in a strategic effort to maximize viewership, sales opportunities and affiliate value working closely with the ESPN Content Strategy team and the full College Sports unit. They work in conjunction with the SEC Network Vice President and Programming Coordinator to identify key match-ups and drive revenue and viewership and provide department with long range programming data to support acquisition and schedule planning, and contribute to new idea generation.
Responsibilities
- Primary scheduler of the SEC Network (linear and digital) responsible for maintaining the network’s schedule on a 24/7 basis. Collaborate with affiliate sales and internal constituents to develop a schedule that will enhance the SECN value proposition.
- Serve as the SEC Network Programming partner with the conference office to select match-ups and communicate programming schedules to SEC officials and member institutions; cultivate and establish strong working relationships with same groups to best position the network.
- Work with ESPN Marketing to set strategic promotional priorities for the SEC Network.
- Work closely with Advertising Sales to develop revenue generating opportunities for SEC Network.
- Collaborate with Communications teams to promote awareness around network sports schedules and content tentpoles.
- Serve as point of contact with ESPN Social Media team by communicating scheduling detail to support key programming initiatives.
- As part of the Programming team, contribute new ideas and suggestions (within and outside of College Sports) guided by ESPN’s overall brand strategies, viewer response, and the competitive landscape
- Special projects as assigned by Programming or SEC Network senior leadership .
- Travel required to represent ESPN’s programming interests, e.g. SEC office, select SEC events.
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in television programming or related sports business field.
- Strong knowledge of college sports and the college conference landscape.
- Strong knowledge of sports television, the sports business & the cable industry.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills & ability to build relationships at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Content Scheduler, NCS system or other ORACLE-related computer system.
- 7 years of experience in television programming or related sports business field.
- Experience working with legal contracts.
Required Education
- College degree in Communications, Business, Sports Management, or another related field.
