Job description
The Retail Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the intake of prescription orders, assessment and monitoring of patient needs, patient education, interaction with healthcare team and the efficient/accurate fulfillment of orders. The Retail Staff Pharmacist will participate in patient care by collaborating with the patient, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe, effective and fiscally responsible patient-centered care. The Retail Staff Pharmacist will ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations provide supervision of support staff and perform related duties as required.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively seeks to improve and expand professional skills through self-directed learning. Participates in departmental educational programs.
- Promotes the Mission, Vision, and Values of UPMC and lives the Standards of Behavior, with an emphasis on the patient at all times.
- Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures and operational standards including federal rules, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
- Provides training and education to pharmacy staff members who include pharmacists and technicians.
- Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, DEA, and FDA by maintaining records for controlled substances; removal of outdated and damaged drugs from pharmacy inventory; supervision of pharmacy technicians.
- Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians? workflow. Oversees all pharmacy technician operations with regard to prescription order entry, preparation of all pharmaceuticals and reconciliation of third party charges.
- Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and in a professional manner with hospital staff and patients.
- Ensures the accuracy and appropriateness of all prescriptions by completing Drug utilization review and final quality assurance.
- Prepares and dispenses medications using appropriate techniques to ensure outcomes of medication therapies following the health systems policies and procedures.
- Execution of all patient care programs that deliver improved measurable outcomes that include medication therapy management and bedside delivery.
- Assures excellent interactions with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding prescription and pharmacy consulting issues.
- Advanced Clinical Duties:
- Provides quality customer service with the willingness to deliver clinical services, such as immunizations and health screenings.
- Successful completion of all annual competencies is required.
