Job description

The Facilities Maintenance Tech I, under the supervision of the Facilities Assistant Manager or designee, is responsible for performing, independently or in a teamwork environment, a variety of manual labor and semi-skilled tasks using all types of small power and hand tools, power washing equipment, and miscellaneous equipment for the completion of assigned tasks. Tasks are associated with commercial transit building components, bus stops, shelters and park and ride property maintenance, repairs and assembly, cleaning and janitorial duties and grounds maintenance.

1. Perform physical labor and routine maintenance tasks as may be assigned, such as, but not limited to, painting, grounds keeping, graffiti/trash/litter removal, carpentry, furniture assembly and set up, office moves and relocations, lighting and electrical service, minor plumbing repairs, proactive and preventative equipment maintenance, bus stop and shelter maintenance, assembly and repairs, and construction tasks in safe manner

2. Work is often physical in nature and performed primarily outdoors and often next to high-volume, high-speed traffic that may require standing for extended periods of time; may work at elevated heights.

3. Manage and maintain work order data in CMMS software through data entry.

4. Perform other duties of a similar nature, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two years of trade school or recent experience performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance (within the past 7 years) is required.
• Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license at the time of hire and have a good driving record. (5 year abstract required).

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of general maintenance and repairs
• Possess basic computer/data entry skills

Knowledge Requirements

• Proper safety precautions and use of safety equipment.
• English, verbal and written, sufficient to read, communicate, comprehend and retain

Skill Requirements

• Reading and understanding basic diagrams, directions, maps, elementary blueprints, and other instructional/directive materials.
• Data entry with high accuracy.
• Actively promoting and maintaining professional and respectful interactions within the CT team and with external customers.
• Interpersonal skills and working with a diverse population.
• Basic computer functions and using and learning software programs.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Safely operate various equipment, power tools, light and medium vehicles.
• Read, communicate, write, and comprehend English.
• Work indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions, on lifts and ladders, and in shops with high noise levels, oil, grease and other chemicals. Incumbent must also be able to work in various traffic situations.
• Stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Function effectively as a member of a team as well as independently.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees at all levels within the company and the general public that Community Transit serves.
• Use a computer for data entry of work orders, and e-mail with a high degree of accuracy.
• Be available for overtime and respond to emergencies as needed

Working Conditions

Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger manipulation, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions, carrying and driving.

Medium-Heavy Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 15 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions. Employees risk physical hazard from power tools, energized equipment and circuits, dust, chemical compounds and height. Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials in excess of 75 lbs. Must be physically able to climb a ladder, work at heights in excess of 30 feet, lift and move furniture, work in confined space.
