Clinical Social Worker - Presidio of Monterey, CA

 

 

Welcome to Presidio of Monterey, home of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. Located in picturesque Monterey County on California's Central Coast, approximately 85 miles south of San Francisco and 50 miles from the Silicon Valley. With historic ties to the Spanish colonial era, the Presidio of Monterey as U.S. military installation dates to July 7, 1846 when Commodore Sloat landed his troops unopposed in Monterey during the Mexican-American War and first raised the U.S. flag in Alta California, claiming its territories for the United States. Monterey is the last Presidio in California to have an active military installation.

 

About the Position:

This is a great opportunity for board certified Psychiatrist to serve our Service members of all military branches attending initial and advanced schools at the Defense Language Institute and Foreign Language Center and the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

POSITION DUTIES:

 

1. Screen and interviews patients, and perform bio-psychosocial evaluations, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling. Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem. Meet passing criteria of Behavioral Health Care (BHC) core competencies as assessed by the clinic’s expert trainer within 90 days of being able to see patients. Provide timely and succinct feedback to PCMs regarding consultations findings and recommendations. Perform routine case management functions as a BHCM when those services are not available by an assigned BHCM to include routine telephonic monitor of symptom severity, adherence to primary care treatment plans, etc. utilizing and guided by a web-based case management support tool Pre-evidence Behavioral Health Tool for Evaluation Risk, Management FIRST STEPS (PBH-TERM FIRST STEPS). 

2. Formulate behavioral health interventions appropriate to a primary care setting and assisting with implementation and monitoring of treatment plans with PCMs and BHCMs. Provide focused follow ups, including relapse – prevention education. Triage and referral of patients to Specialty Behavioral Health Care when appropriate. Provide on-going consultation services for a sub-set of patients who require on-going monitoring and follow-up (i.e., continuity consultations) with BHCMs where appropriate. Uses objective and measurable outcomes to evaluate treatment effectiveness and make adjustments if appropriate for increased compliance and efficacy. Work as a primary care team member to develop specific clinical pathways or best practice programs for targeted patient groups (e.g., patients with acute stress symptoms and PTSD). 

3. Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in patient’s medical record in no more than 72 hours after the patient is seen. 

4. Develop, teach, and provide oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health. Evaluate training opportunities, and professional development activities.

US Citizenship required

 

Incumbent must possess a valid and unrestriced license as a clinical social worker from a U.S. State or Territory.

Must possess a Master's degree in Social Work.

Must have one (1) year of experience as a licensed clinical social worker.
