Job description

Through our partnership with the National Institutes of Health, Kelly Government Solutions offers administrative, IT, engineering, scientific, and healthcare professionals the opportunity to work with the leading medical research center in the world. We are seeking an individual to work as a Health and Science Writer at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. This position can support a hybrid work arrangement.
This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
(1) Provide National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) with compelling and scientifically accurate content that will be distributed on internal and external communication channels for use by NINR audiences, which can include internal and external people and organizations impacted by Institute research and activities
(2) Research, write and edit scientific and technical information in a variety of formats, including articles, blog posts, factsheets, one-pagers, brochures, presentations and speeches, workshop summaries, reports, briefing materials, press releases, content for digital media in online and print format.
(3) Develop talking points, presentations and speeches for leadership based on research findings, currently funded grants, and Institute priorities.
(4) Prepare summaries, reports, dashboards, and presentations for various audiences including NINR leadership
(5) Prepares training materials for distribution among research and operational staff to assist in their writing and editing activities with the goal of increasing the quality and consistency of scientific and technical writing.
(6) Perform literature reviews of scientific and technical literature to identify methodologies, findings and conclusions of significance and prepare summaries and reports for distribution among research and medical staffs.
(7) Review and provide edits to a variety of external communication and informational materials to ensure scientific and technical accuracy and completeness
(8) Design and maintain templates and detailed usage instructions for preparing common documentation, such as posters, presentations, reports, proposals, abstracts, etc.
(9) Proofread and cross-check original and referenced data, verify cited content from source documents, and perform originality reviews of all scientific and technical writing.
(10) Provide expert advice for general health and science communications activities that involve content creation for health communication and outreach projects, scientific and technical publication, promotional materials and online events to maximize impact and performance toward organizational goals.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor ideally would have:
(1) Master’s degree in Public Health, Biology, Psychology, Nursing, Communications, or related discipline
(2) Expertise in communicating complex health and scientific topics to the general public in clear, concise language
(3) Expertise in writing and editing technical and scientific documents, reports, talking points, presentations, and publications for use by various audiences including Institute leadership
(4) Expertise in identifying and reviewing academic literature and manuscripts as source material for communications products
(5) Experience with content management systems such as Drupal preferred
