Assistant Specialist in Chemistry Department

Position Overview:
A reasonable estimate for this position is $59,800-$66,200.


RESEARCH IN SPECIALIZED AREAS (85% EFFORT): The specialist will carry out a project that investigates new feedstocks derived from soybean wastes for the 5-(chloromethyl)furfural process. This will involve feedstock analysis, process parameter optimization (acid concentration, reaction temperature, time, loading, co-solvent, agitation rate), product isolation and yield determination, and product analysis using methods such as GC-MS, NMR, UV, and analytical chromatography. The researcher will also participate in weekly group meetings, assist in the mentoring of junior group members, and contribute towards various laboratory duties.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (10% EFFORT): The specialist will assist the PI in composing and reviewing research proposals, journal manuscripts, and other publications related to the area of expertise.

UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5% EFFORT): The specialist may be asked to participate in appropriate committee work and other administrative activities both within the university and the scientific community in general.
