Requirements
What is the role of Shop Superintendent?
This team member develops and implements Shop’s objectives, policies and goals, partnering with Operations and the Company, to ensure an effective program of equipment utilization and maintenance.
What you will get to do:
- Analyzes changes or new issues in equipment supply to reduce costs and improve quality, determining the appropriateness of buying, renting, leasing or transferring vehicles/equipment
- Responsible for the evaluation and oversight of all training of Equipment Group employees
- Responsible for Shop annual budget
- Oversee the activities of all equipment group employees
- Provide oversight and direction of maintenance and warranty schedules for all equipment
- Develops and maintains relationships in the industry with internal customers
- Understand fleet risk management and insurance implications of our trucks and rental trucks
- Communicates operational issues with the Operations Manager
- Inspect incoming equipment and plan repairs
- Coordinate outside repairs with vendors and internal stakeholders
- Work closely with Operations to ensure that all resources are scheduled appropriately and in the most efficient manner
- Tag work orders with employee numbers for shop mechanics
- Assign jobs to road mechanics
- Conduct RCFA of all major issues/failures
- Recognize and expedite all high priority projects
- Forward formal warranty repair documentation to Purchasing and Inventory Control Coordinator
- Develop weekly shop schedule, ensuring that necessary parts are ordered for shop repairs
- Collect weekly VCR’s, following up with field Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents and Operators on repairs and concerns
- Schedule and conduct weekly safety meetings with all shop employees
- Responsible for identifying skills and training needs of all employees
- Provide technical assistance to field and shop mechanics
- Coordinate emergency parts and materials with purchasing agent
- The understanding of and the compliance with SCDOT, state and federal regulatory requirements
- Suggest and initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, hires and training requirements. Adhere to the company’s Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy when taking part in any employment action or decision, such as hiring, job assignment, layoff or termination

Who you are:
- You possess a Bachelors Degree in Construction Management/Business or equivalent experience
- You have three to five years successful experience as an Shop Mechanic in heavy highway construction (preferred)
- You bring over five years of successful experience as a Shop Mechanic Foreman
- You have thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, and methods), negotiations, engineering, cost control schedules and safety required
- You have the capability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals
- You are driven to exceed project cost and profit measures
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well under stress, despite numerous interruptions
- You have a valid drivers license with a clean three year driving record
- Ability to work effectively in a road construction environment

Salary Description
$80,000-$90,000 annually
