Scope of Position:

This is a “hands-on” research position focused on application of science and engineering principles to industrial problem-solving and includes a significant amount of materials process engineering. The responsibilities of this position include participating in various R&D projects, both fundamental and applied. The responsibilities also include maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment as well as adaptation of existing equipment or building of new equipment as required. This position requires a thorough understanding and application of standard engineering or scientific theories, concepts, principles, and techniques. It also requires the ability to develop and resolve solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity. It is expected that the candidate will work under general direction with well-defined objectives. Other expectations for this role include contributing to new product development, building internal and external professional networks, writing technical reports and contributing to intellectual property.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Maintain and operate lab equipment
• As required, modify existing or build new equipment to meet deliverables
• Participate in the design and assume responsibility for execution of laboratory experiments
• Identify and articulate problems as well as develop and execute approaches to solving them
• Submit samples for various characterization methods and collate/organize data
• Work with a variety of materials, gases and chemicals
• Function as a team member on R&D projects
• Make technical presentations to project teams and management

Education and Experience:

• B.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related Engineering field is required.
• Industrial and/or academic research experience is desired.

Required Skills:

• Hands-on experience with building and troubleshooting equipment
• Ability and motivation to work independently once work plans have been established
• Ability to develop and resolve solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
• Ability to carefully collect, organize, and analyze data using Microsoft Excel and/or other data analysis/graphing programs
• Strong communication, technical writing and oral presentational skills

The range for this position is $62,310.00 - $85,677.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
