Job description
As an Advanced Practice Provider PRN you will exercise independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol. To help achieve our mission, you will demonstrate respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated team-based approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizing evidenced based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery is required. . Participating in quality/best practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost effective care delivery to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes is required. Performing high-quality clinical practices and effective patient management under physician supervision by following state regulations, including primary and secondary specialty care in clinical and/or surgical practice settings, is expected.
Job Responsibilities - Practices in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensures compliance with professional and ethical standards of practice.
- Communicates appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff and other healthcare providers.
- Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging and other pertinent data. Reviews patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family.
- Evaluates and documents patients' response to care, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategy.
- Assumes clinical management for the acute care patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice.
- Provides accurate record keeping as evidenced by complete and pertinent history/physicals, pre- operative/progress notes, discharge summaries and data information sheets.
- Serves as a role model/preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and students.
- Assists physicians in the care management of patients during emergencies.
- Participates in and supports the departmental, hospital and system-wide quality performance improvement initiatives.
- Supports departmental cost savings strategies and provides care in an efficient and cost conscious manner.
- Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.
- Participates in clinical research/data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty.
- Provides formal/informal clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge.
- Maintains certification(s) and licensure(s), including DEA license.
- Proactively assists peers with work tasks.
- Takes initiative to complete work beyond daily assignments.
- Maintains professional demeanor when busy or under stress.
- Works aggressively to ensure patient satisfaction.
Additional Requirements Certification - Basic Life Support / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support / Pediatric Advanced Life Support Upon Start / Upon Start / Upon Start BLS - all areas / ACLS - Critical Care / PALS - PediatricLicensure - Registered Nurse / Licensed Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Upon Start / Upon Start / Upon Start Compact License (depending on State of primary residence) and a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances). / Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner or Physician AssistantExperience - 0 New graduate considered.Education - Bachelors Degree / Masters Degree Nursing / Bachelors in Nursing and Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing. For physician Assistants , graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. / Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing.
