Summary::
Horizon is seeking an industrious and attentive individual to work at the company’s R&D laboratory. This position’s primary responsibilities include:
- Setting up, maintaining, and collecting data from plant growth studies and other laboratory experiments.
- Clearly documenting procedures and recording data.
- Communicating effectively with team members.
- Helping to maintain a clean, safe, organized, and productive laboratory.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to learning, effective and clear communication skills, attention to detail, an appreciation for precise measurements and accurate documentation, and a dedication to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in setting up and maintaining plant growth studies and soil health studies.
- Collect and document measurements from laboratory studies.
- Conduct laboratory tests on product, plant, and soil samples.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records and effectively communicate with team members.
- Comply with all safety rules, practice good housekeeping, and maintain a safe workplace.
- Support lab equipment maintenance routines.
- Other duties as assigned by the Agricultural Applications Research Manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the qualities and skills described above, candidates should possess as many of the following qualifications as possible:
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, soil science, horticulture, or a closely related field. At a minimum, an associate degree in one of the above fields or completion of two years of college-level laboratory-based coursework in biology and chemistry.
- Experience as a laboratory technician or assistant. Recent graduates with relevant academic or professional lab experience are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to comply with laboratory safety practices.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Must be comfortable using computers and learning new software.
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented, with good observation skills
- Ability to multi-task

Classification: Exempt / Salary, paid bi-weekly, benefits eligible. Early career position with competitive compensation commensurate with experience
